Bloggers Excel: George Booysen

Bloggers Excel - George Booysen

In this post, I have an interview with George Booysen, who blogs at Unravelled Thoughts. Read this interview to know his opinion, ideas and suggestions to succeed in blogging. Here is the interview.

Can you please tell our readers about yourself and your blog?

I’m a language teacher at a private school, teaching Afrikaans. I happened to explore various places around the world and decided to blog about my experiences. My blog unravels my experiences and gives insight on lifestyle topics based on my experience everywhere I stayed.

Describe how did you first get into blogging?

I always had the desire to have one. But, because of the tech struggle, it often discouraged me, until I was able to get the guidance, that’s when I took it as an opportunity to learn and make it a mission to make my vision a reality finally. That’s how my blog came to be since then I had the urge to write more.

Can you tell me some of your strengths that helped you in blogging?

I would definitely say persistence has helped me to push through and helped me to get my blog to be set up. I also think always being willing to ask around if I didn’t understand helped me in the process.

How do you want to improve yourself in the next month?

I will definitely do more research and find ways to promote my blog so that people can be able to read my blog, but mostly I will write new content that can captivate my subscribers.

What do you think is the best service a blogger can provide to his readers?

I think to allow the readers to find value from your writing, when they read their minds must be sparked in such a way that they may become thought-provoking. I also think a blogger must help readers to understand certain aspects of life better than before, leaving them with a change of mind.

What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?

I think mostly getting your blog set up; many tutorials can help you. However, sometimes the help from tutorials or online platforms are not always practical. How to choose the correct advice, not all the information will necessarily be the correct ones for your blog.

Who has impacted you most in blogging, and how?

I was fortunate enough to get some guidance from a friend, which I think has had the best impact on getting my blog up and running. Without direction, one might never be put one’s vision into reality. My friend played a significant role!

What is your greatest achievement outside of blogging?

I think I have a lot of anxiety for many things. Being an introvert and being slightly OCD often prevents me from getting out of my comfort zone. I think definitely when I started teaching; it has allowed me to grow a lot. I have grown together with my students at school. They are high school kids, and I’m so happy at the impact I have made in their lives many respects me so much for how practical I teach. Some of them are doing exceptionally well, and this has been a significant achievement for me.

What do you do in your spare time?

I enjoy taking walks; I love nature and discovering new places. I also enjoy watching anime and drinking coffee.

Can you name some of your favourite bloggers?

I don’t particularly have favourite bloggers but enjoy bloggers who are creative and concise in their writings. It’s always amazing to read content that can easily be understood.

How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and to run?

What has kept me motivated a lot lately has my thought process. Since I started blogging, I have become more observant in my surroundings. I would often ask myself what I could write about that the readers will enjoy. After I have the idea in my head than for a few days, I will think about it and allow the creativity to flow.

What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?

I would say the ability to write clear thoughts and to connect your paragraphs well so that the reader may grasp what you wrote about.

In the future, where do you hope your blog will take you?

I’m definitely planning on covering many lifestyle topics that people have ponder about, integrate some competitions in my blog as well as have my shop. I’m also hoping to cover on events and featuring articles about rising stars in our local area

Do you have any specific goals for the rest of this year?

My goal for the year is to write as much as I can and to get more readers on board.

Did you have any professional help, or did you create the blog yourself?

I got some help from my friend, who has professionally been dealing with most of the issues relating to the start-up of a blog. He mostly supported me to set up where I can, but then he would help with the more difficult parts.

What do you think is the best social media strategy for getting more visitors to a blog?

I just launched my blog a week ago; so far, many friends have viewed my blog. Hopefully, my students will also see when school reopen again. Apart from that, I’m still researching how I can promote my blog.

I am grateful that George took time out to respond to the interview questions. Wish him all the success in his blogging adventure. Do check George’s blog out at www.unravelledthoughts.com.
