Bloggers Excel: Sehli Chaotic

Review with Nash - Bloggers Excel: Sehli Chaotic

Are you thinking about starting your blog? Or, do you own a blog and want to learn from famous bloggers? Read the interviews with bloggers. Today on Bloggers Excel we are hosting Sehli, the lady behind the popular blog Sehli Chaotic.

Can you please tell our readers about yourself and your blog?

I am a young Zimbabwean lady, a development practitioner passionate about life, the empowerment of women and mental illness awareness. The blog is about capturing my own thoughts, putting my feelings and opinion into words which, in a way, leaves me feeling liberated.

Describe how did you first get into blogging?

I started blogging in 2018 as a way to cope with my anxiety. I read somewhere that writing could help to manage my anxiety levels and keep me calm. I have always loved reading and writing as well, so starting a blog made sense to me. I didn’t know much about blogging or the kinds of opportunities it offered, but I just dived in, googled sites that could help and came across WordPress, I signed up and started writing.

Can you tell me some of your strengths that helped you in blogging?

I’m good at expressing emotions through words, I enjoy reading and writing, I am creative, and my good command in English definitely helps.

How do you want to improve yourself in the next month?

I want to work on my consistency in creating content; to engage and interact with other bloggers and hopefully work on finding my niche, which has been a challenge for a while now.

What do you think is the best service a blogger can provide to his readers?

Quality, readable, fun and educational content.

What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?

My blog started at a very dark time in my life, and so most of the content on it is dark and sad. Once I got through those times, the biggest challenge was getting out of dark mode and start creating more positive and relevant content.

Who has impacted you most in blogging, and how?

I’m impacted mostly by the Zimbabwean online blogging community, especially Afrobloggers and Tribe of Influencers who have been there with me since day one helping me put my work out there and increase my reach. Going through other blogs as well has inspired me to keep blogging and taught me that blogging can be more than just a hobby.

What is your greatest achievement outside of blogging?

Obtaining my Honours Degree in Development Studies

What do you do in your spare time?

I read and take long walks.

Can you name some of your favourite bloggers?

Beaton, Makupsy and Musanjufu Benjamin

How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and to run?

I derive whatever I write from personal experiences, and I always make sure to capture what I feel strongly about so as to keep the fire burning.

What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?

It is accepting that some days you are going to be speaking to yourself and not getting any reaction from the audience.

In the future, where do you hope your blog will take you?

I am hoping to turn my blog into an influential site and business.

Do you have any specific goals for the rest of this year?

To keep blogging and finding my niche.

Did you have any professional help, or did you create the blog yourself?

I did it by myself.

What do you think is the best social media strategy for getting more visitors to a blog?

To be visible on all social media sites, sharing links, participating in blog sharing and being part of a blogging community.

Lastly is there anything else you would like us to know about you?

I am passionate about mental health, and I dream of starting my own non-profit in marginalized places such as Tsholotsho, my hometown, of raising more awareness and encourage inclusion.

Thanks a lot Sehli for spending your valuable time in answering all the interview question. I wish you all the best for all your future ventures. You can read more about Sehli and her great writing skills on her blog Sehli Chaotic.
